Senior Thesis Project: Wellness Spa Design – Palm Springs
This semester-long senior thesis focused on integrating biophilic design principles with infection prevention strategies to create a restorative and resilient wellness environment. Set in Palm Springs, the project reimagines the modern spa as a sanctuary for both physical health and emotional well-being.
The spatial concept was inspired by "80" Great Rhombicosidodecahedron, a geometric sculpture by artist Anthony James exhibited locally in Palm Springs. Its intricate symmetry and interconnected form guided the layout, resulting in a design that promotes natural flow, openness, and intentional transitions between spaces.
The spa program includes wet and dry treatment rooms, a community treatment space, retail area, café, and a pool lounge—all meticulously planned to align with the core values of wellness, hygiene, and connection to nature. Every zone was thoughtfully organized to support the thesis goals, using natural materials, clean lines, and biophilic elements to reinforce a sense of calm and cleanliness.
The layout was developed in SketchUp, with photorealistic renderings created in Enscape to fully visualize the atmosphere and experience of the space.
